Telynor's Library, and then some

A woman of a certain age who has three cats underfoot, and has the dream of filling her passport with stamps. Books, classical music, tea, cats, movies, art, fancy needlework,  and anything else I can think of.

A very dated romantic suspense with all of the bad elements

The India Fan - Victoria Holt

This rather dated novel tells the story of Drusilla the vicar's daughter who finds herself entangled with the local aristocratic family, the Framlings, who take a shine to her. There's the crazy woman in the attics, a bitchy nasty friend who treats the heroine like dirt, the sarcastic hero, the conniving mother, and on and on. Unfortunately, this tale that takes the reader from England to India is a snoozer in that the story keeps the reader at arm's length. There isn't any passion, I came away with never feeling the how or why the hero is interested in the heroine, and how the Indians were portrayed was damn insulting. The big climax comes with the Great Mutiny in India, and even then, it's a bore and a chore to get through. All in all, unless you're a big fan of Victoria Holt, I say skip it. Just three stars overall.
